EXHIBITION ORGANIZED WITHIN THE "CZECH DREAM - A LUCID DREAM" PROJECT.

ARTISTS: Petra Herotová, Eva Koťátková, Markéta Othová, Kateřina Šedá, Pavel Sterec, Jan Šerých, Jiří Thýn

The issue of organizing and structuring the world around us and inside us begins to be crucial. The act of moving in space and coping with its limits is reflected in many forms and strategies of contemporary art. The attempt to capture the structure of the surrounding environment seems to be a growing priority in today’s overcrowded and over-communicated world. Special installations are returning to the stage not necessarily to fill the space, but rather to understand its structure and function. Storing the past time and time again is currently the obsession of art. A repeatable reconstruction of the past leads us to find new constructions of our future.
In the context of this study, using the elements of mathematical and scientific methods and manipulation is given a high priority. The exhibition ‘Ears like Loops’ focuses on the mathematical and logical references in the works of contemporary Czech artists. Their work reflects the diversity of directions in which the ideas of looping, storytelling, synclitism, multiple connections and network structures are used in some of the themes present in today’s generation’s and visual communication’s message. The artists are trying to define the meaning of reality by recourse to such mathematical methods as multiplication, reduction, ramification, the use of Venn diagrams, mental maps, mathematical tables, etc. - Edith Jeřabkova, curator of the exhibition

The exhibition ‘Ears Like Loops’ was organized within the ‘Czech dream – a lucid dream’, whose objective is to approximate the complexity of contemporary art and the diversity of artistic expression of Czech artists. Paradoxically, so far in Poland there has been no presentation of the achievements of artists from beyond our Southern border on such a large scale. Despite the geografical proximity of Poland and the Czech Republic, for most of us the achievements of our neighbours in the cultural area are terra incognita. Therefore, the project ‘Czech dream – a lucid dream’ is not limited to the presentation of one generation of artists, one direction in the Czech art, or one and only its interpretation.
